Location and the feel of the place
“Bangkok” is a small Thai restaurant on the corner of the tax office intersection in central Sagamihara. No dedicated parking, so if you’re driving, you’ll need to use a nearby coin parking lot. On foot, the location is easy to find.
Inside is a compact layout with counter and table seating. Clean, welcoming, and — unexpectedly for a Thai place — weekday lunch regularly fills every seat with locals. The demand is heavier than the scale suggests.
Table-side seasonings let you tune the flavor yourself
Every table has the full authentic setup: fish sauce, chili vinegar, sugar, and chili powder. Everything tastes great as-is, but being able to dial in “more sour” or “more heat” yourself is a real treat for anyone into Thai food. If you’re spice-averse, you can also order mild and add heat gradually from there.
Lunch is cheap, and the daily curry is ¥200 extra
Lunch prices are broadly reasonable, with daily curry starting at ¥600 (tax incl.) on its own. Thai noodles and one-plate lunch sets fill out the menu, covering both “light lunch” and “I want to eat properly” days.
The sneaky-good option: you can add the daily curry as a topping for just ¥200. This visit it was Massaman — mild spice, smooth flavor, exactly right for lunch. I haven’t seen many Thai restaurants let you add authentic curry at this price.
Tom Yum and Gapao, the classics nailed
The tom yum that comes with lunch holds its balance of sour and spicy without wobbling — confidently good. The lemongrass and coriander make it feel like there’s a wall between this and whatever Japanese meal you had most recently.
Gapao rice has the pork seared well, with chili heat and sweet-salty sauce pulling everything together with the rice. Paprika and bell pepper add textural contrast. Mild-spice ordering is available, which makes this a friendly introduction to gapao.
The ¥100 spring roll — don’t hesitate
The true star of the add-on menu is the ¥100 (tax incl.) spring roll. Honestly, this quality at this price is in the “this shouldn’t be possible” category. Packed tightly with vegetables, paired well with sweet chili sauce — adding one every lunch doesn’t hurt the wallet at all.
Wrap-up
I mostly ordered gapao and the spring roll this visit, and every plate was legitimately authentic while the lunch pricing stayed sane. Customizable heat, the add-on curry, the ¥100 spring roll — it’s obvious why the locals keep this place afloat. Next time, I’m ordering the daily curry as the main.
